IMPROVE YOUR INDOOR AIR QUALITY WHILE SAVING MONEY!
We'd like to share some
trade secrets that will greatly improve your
level of comfort while making the air you
breathe even cleaner.
Let's start by discussing UV lights and
their effect on mold. We all know how
hot and steamy it can get and this combination of moisture and heat is prime for
the growth and production of mold,
mildew and bacteria. In areas with
extreme temperatures combined with
darkness and dust, such as your air conditioning and heating system, mold may
find a way to grow no matter how well
the system was designed and installed.
Today there is a readily available option
for you to consider for your family's air
conditioning system: Ultraviolet lights.
The installation of special UV-C lights
can help control growth of harmful bacteria, like mold, in a comfort system. It
can remove and clean the bacteria and
ultimately improve the indoor air quality, airflow and efficiency of your entire
system. That means you can breathe easier and save energy.
UV-C lights may reduce or eliminate
bacteria in your A/C system. They may
reduce or eliminate mold growing in
your ducts. The reduction of their
growth results in cleaner air for you and
your family to breathe, which
lessens your risk to the hazards of mold
exposure.
On the flip side, UV-C lights are powerful and can, over time, deteriorate plastics such as some wiring insulation and
other components of the air handler or
ducting system. UV-C lights must not be
viewed with the naked eye. The intensity and frequency of the light they give off is unsafe for humans to view without proper protection.
Another great way to increase the efficiency of your system while improving air
quality is to trash those blue fiberglass filters forever. Spend a little extra for the pleated filters and it will actually save you money in the long run hy helping your system stay cleaner and, therefore, run more effectively.
Lastly, replace that old, outdated mercury thermostat with a digital programmable one. You can program the thermostat to gradually heat or cool - giving you more flexibility for times when you're away and don't want your system running full blast. You can accurately set the thermostat for exactly what temperature you want with out the guessing and fidgeting that goes on with the old mercury types.
